Tanning booths are stand up tanning units in which UV rays radiate from bulbs that are placed along the sides of the unit. Tanning booths provide you with a golden tan by gradually having the skin absorb the rays while in the unit. You start off slowly by visiting only a few minutes at a time per session. Tanning booths have many benefits for beyond just getting a tan.
Privacy
Tanning booths provide privacy. The tanning booth itself is likely set up as part of a small room. The room can be used for changing clothes, applying lotion and getting prepared to enter the booth. There is also typically a lock on the door for added privacy. Once you enter the booth and shut the door, the lamps turn on.
Coverage
Some people prefer the booth because they are able to get full coverage as compared to a tanning bed. In a tanning bed, sometimes the sides of the body, inner thighs or underarms do not get the right amount of exposure. With a booth, all sides of the body get UV penetration. In most booths there is a bar that you can hold onto to get tanned under the arms comfortably.
Time Efficient
Most tanning booths are very time efficient. Because there are lamps on all sides, you do not have to remain in the booth as long as you would a bed. Unlike a tanning bed where the top of the bed can be adjusted, the booth isn't adjustable, so you get equal exposure on all sides. Many clients prefer the booth because they can walk in and achieve a tan in half the time they would if they visited a bed.
Hygiene
You might be concerned with hygiene when tanning. In a bed, you lie down. Sweat and bodily fluids may collect, even if the bed has been sanitized. While the sanitizer may kill a high percentage of germs, if it was not cleaned properly, germs can affect the next client. Even if the bed is cleaned, there is often still a slight odor, especially with older models that have been used many times.
Comfort
Many people prefer a booth over a bed for comfort. This is because they won't be lying down on glass, which can be uncomfortable for prolonged sessions. With a booth, you stand up throughout the tanning process. Booths typically also include cushioning on the floor of the booth, offering added support and comfort. Some people prefer the booths if they have muscle or back problems or other ailments that cause pain when laying on a flat, non-cushioned surface.
