Boston's tradition of fitness activities is firmly established. The mixture of coastline, countryside and urban living means there are pastimes to suit every taste as well as a Bostonian culture that encourages self-improvement. Clubs, festivals and events all provide opportunities to find friends and partners through shared interests and passions.
Ice Skating
Ice skating on Boston's Frog Pond is available to anyone with $4 to spend. Either for meeting potential partners in a romantic setting, or just a quirky way to have fun with friends, the Frog Pond is the place to spend your winters. There are classes available for any level of skater. The location of Boston Common in the heart of the downtown area of the city means that there are plenty of high-quality restaurants and shops to visit after a session on the ice.
Cycling
The Charles River Wheelmen promote themselves as primarily a social club, not a cycling club. They offer the chance to meet active-minded singles and couples with a passion for cycling. They offer various routes around the city, and as they are not-for-profit and run by volunteers, the annual membership fee is only $15. Boston has many other events and organizations for the amateur cyclist. The Blue Hills Cycling Club, and the famous Boston Wheelers Cycling Club pride themselves on their range of cycling opportunities--charity rides, races, mountain biking and much more.
Softball
Softball has a strong tradition in Boston, and coed leagues allow you to meet people who share a love of friendly competition. Bean Town Softball League is one of the oldest gay softball leagues in the country; the EMASS league offers softball matches targeted to the over-55s; and Boston West coed softball is open to all, from novices to advanced amateurs.
Project Smile Annual Charity Date Auction
Whether you're a guy willing to be auctioned off or a girl looking to purchase an eligible bachelor, Project Smile is the slave auction for you. Quite apart from the chance to meet potential partners, a fun evening is almost guaranteed, in the company of fellow Boston singles. The aim of Project Smile is to raise money to invest in stuffed animals, storybooks, crayons and pencils for for children in need. Project Smile offers a wonderful evening for a wonderful cause.
Dancing
Whether you have two left feet or you're a salsa expert there are opportunities to have singles fun in Boston's dancing community. Four times a year Boston Harbor Cruises organize the Salsa and Latin Dance Cruise in Boston Harbor--for $25 at the door it's possible to dance the night away with complete strangers. Three nights a week MIT sponsors dancing at the college, with contra on Tuesdays, Israeli on Sundays and international folk dance on Wednesdays.
