Phoenix, Arizona, offers parents innovative ways to help get their toddler some exercise. Although he may be full of energy anyway, there are more structured options than just having him run through the house all day. Check out one of these Phoenix programs to introduce your child to fitness skills and friendships.
Swimming
Getting kids into the pool at a young age makes them comfortable with the environment, and instills important water safety skills early on. At Lori's Swim School, children can start taking lessons early, as the instructors are both infant- and toddler-certified. Arcadia Infant Swim is dedicated entirely to little ones, and they enroll students from the age of six months to the age of six years. Sessions are only 10 minutes in length, so as not to tire or overwhelm the child.
Gymnastics
Tumbling, somersaults and balance beams do not only provide toddlers with exercise, but also help to develop coordination and balance. At the Phoenix Gymnastics Academy, children as young as 18 months may join the program with one of their parents. The parent assists the youngster as she goes through a circuit of gymnastics equipment. Starting at the age of three, little ones move on to a small class without their parents present.
Dance Class
Dancing entitles children to entertainment and excitement, and frequently allows them to prepare for their first recital performances. Sometimes dancing and gymnastics programs are combined to promote balance and grace together. Little ones often like to dance around the house, but joining a program will offer them a more structured environment. Royal Dance Works offers a ballet program for two-year-olds. Kimberly Lewis School of Dance offers toddlers a combination class.
Playgrounds
Let your little one run through the grass and get some fresh air while playing hide and seek or tag with her friends. Introducing youngsters to playground equipment will give them a new option for playtime. Furthermore, it may even help ease their anxieties about heights, slides or swings. On hot days, try out the shaded playground area at Acacia Park. At Adobe Mountain Park, you'll find five acres which include a playground, soccer field, grills and more.
Sports
Toddlers can participate in athletics in Phoenix. Beginners Edge Sports Training welcomes tykes as young as 18 months to begin to learn skills of soccer, baseball, basketball and football. For those interested particularly in baseball, check out the Lil Sluggers league, which teaches individuals from two- through seven-years-old. They offer small group classes of seven students for private instruction in the skills of baseball.
