With approximately 14 million tourists visiting the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area annually, you will find a large number of those tourists arrive to the area by RV. Myrtle Beach provides ample accommodations for RV travelers from the north to the south end of the beach. However, the major hub area for RV parks tends to be located on South Kings Highway, where there are a variety of amenities and recreational activities.
Geography
Myrtle Beach is centrally located on the South Carolina coast off of Highways 501 and 17. It is home to both the largest mall in South Carolina, the Coastal Grand Mall, and the oldest park in the state, Myrtle Beach State Park. The area is also a prime location for golfing, fishing, boating, shrimping and crabbing.
Private RV Parks
There are several private RV parks along South Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, many of which offer amenities such as cable TV hookups, Wi-Fi service, laundry facilities, golf cart rentals and swimming pools. Three of the privately owned RV parks on South Kings Highway are Ocean Lakes Campground, Lakewood Camping Resort, and Pirateland. Each of the parks offer kids' activities and recreational activities such as volleyball, biking, basketball and miniature golf.
Myrtle Beach State Park
Myrtle Beach State Park is also located off of South Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. The park sits on the ocean and has been open since 1935. With camping sites that will accommodate RVs up to 40 feet and only 300 yards from the beach, you are sure to enjoy your stay. While staying on site, you will find laundry facilities, hot showers and free Wi-Fi access. The park also provides opportunities to get involved in outdoor activities such as fishing, picnicking and walking along the Sculptured Oak Nature Trail.
Activities
Golfing is one of the most popular activities in Myrtle Beach. With numerous golf courses throughout the entire area, you are sure to find one that meets your expectations and golfing abilities. There are also plenty of outdoor water activities such as surfing, parasailing, body boarding, canoeing and kayaking. If fishing is more your speed, you can fish off the pier or charter a deep-sea fishing boat.
Prime Time
Myrtle Beach can be a pleasant and activity packed vacation throughout the year. However, if you really want to take advantage of all of the outdoor activities, you will want to visit in the late spring or summer when temperatures are warm. If you prefer to avoid the summer crowds, you may want to visit in the early autumn when temperatures are still warm and festivals are in full swing such as the Italian Festival and Oktoberfest.
