Those who suffer from excessive body odor are more than likely aware of the problem; the hardest part is how to change it. It seems like it should be so simple, but in reality, there are so many things that can cause body odor, it's sometimes hard to know where to begin. As this is a problem with embarrassing social and personal repercussions, too much time shouldn't pass without dealing with it. With better understanding and perhaps even trial and error, body odor can eventually be eliminated.
Step 1
Talk to your doctor. If the things you have already tried aren't producing results, talk to a professional to rule out any health issues that may be causing the problem. Excessive body odor can stem from a number of health issues or from taking certain medications, but only a doctor can help you figure it out.
Step 2
Bathe daily and wear clean clothes. This can help to eliminate any lingering germs and odors on both you and your clothing. Sometimes soaking in the bathtub with 2-3 cups of tomato juice added to the water can help eliminate odors.
Step 3
Wash under your your arms with a solution of 1 tsp. of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide in a cup of warm water. Increase the amount of hydrogen peroxide as needed to help curb any odors.
Step 4
Watch your diet. Avoid foods that may be causing you to excrete unpleasant odors. Each person is different and this may be a trial and error process. Garlic, cumin, alcohol, caffeine, large quantities of meat and too little fiber can all contribute to body odor and may need to be avoided.
Step 5
Apply baking soda under your arms or baby powder instead of deodorant to help absorb excess moisture. Adding lemon juice to the baking soda so that it turns into a paste may also help kill immediate odors.
