Facial hair starts growing at adolescence right around the time of puberty. It is a dominant characteristic in males who often grow beards and mustaches, and often shape it into patterns. Women can also experience facial hair growth, but not in such large amounts. In both situations, there are several methods to remove it.
Shaving
Shaving is one of the cheapest and most common ways to remove facial hair. You can do it with a fresh, new razor blade and shaving cream. If you have sensitive skin, use a shaving cream that has lanolin. Razor blades can be found in forms that have up to three blades to make sure no hair gets missed and flexible heads to follow the contour of your face.
Plucking
Tweezers are small tools that are commonly used to pull out slivers. When hair only appears in small amounts or patches, tweezers can be used to pluck them out. This method takes a little bit of patience and there can be some moderate pain.
Creams
Depilatory creams have an active ingredient called "thioglycolate." This type of treatment works better on fine hair so it would be more beneficial for women. When you apply the cream to your face, it attacks the protein portion of the hair called "keratin." The hair then gets lifted from the follicle and you wipe it off with a damp cloth. These should be kept away from the eyes and eyebrows and they should not be left on the skin longer than directed as they can cause burning.
Wax
Waxing can be done at home or at a spa or salon. Hot wax is placed over the hair with a wooden applicator. A strong cloth is smoothed out over the top of it, and it is then ripped off rapidly, resulting in the removal of the wax and hair.
Destruction
Electrolysis is a procedure in which a tiny needle is inserted into the hair follicles. A surge of energy is then sent to the tip, which hits the root of the hair and renders it dead. The hair falls out and stays out. After several treatments, this type of hair removal method can be permanent. This procedure is done professionally, but you can also get a home-version electrolysis kit. The only drawback is the home kits are not very powerful.
Lasers
Laser hair removal is done in a professional setting where beams of intense light are shot down into the skin. These light beams seek out melanin, which is what gives hair its color. Once the hair gets hit with the beam, it dies and falls out. Like electrolysis, this method can take several sessions to see long-lasting results.
