Depending on where you are located in New Jersey, you can reach New York City in about 10 to 60 minutes. While in New Jersey, you can travel to the Jersey Shore, relax in Wildwood or have a fun-filled adventure at Six Flags. Also, if you desire to stay physically healthy, New Jersey has plenty of fitness clubs from northern New Jersey to the border of Pennsylvania. You have access to a wide variety of fitness centers that have flexible hours as well as indoor pool and on-site spa amenities.
Women Only Club
If you are a woman who prefers to exercise only with other women, you might enjoy American Woman Fitness Center. You can find the fitness center in two New Jersey malls: Cooper Tree Shopping Center in Oakland and Westwood Shopping Center in Westwood. Both locations have childcare services. The facilities have a steam room, heated whirlpool and sauna. The center provides an on-site aesthetician, massage therapist and more than 50 group classes a week, such as aqua cardio, strength training and cross training.
24-Hour Fitness Club
Sometimes you need a fitness club that works with a busy schedule and, for this, a 24-hour fitness center may work best. You can select either a small neighborhood facility open 24 hours, such as Achieve 24 in Hackettstown or Wings in Sea Girt, or a larger nationwide establishment, such as Anytime Fitness. You can find this fitness club in cities, such as Hamilton Township, Colonia, Brick and Mays Landing. As of September 2010, Anytime Fitness has 12 locations in New Jersey and is in the process of building more. Also, you can gain access to any other Anytime Fitness location with a single membership.
Chain Fitness Club
Retro Fitness offers seven facilities in New Jersey, including locations at Bordentown, Brick, Cherry Hill and Egg Harbor. Although hours at each location vary, most facilities are open from 4 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Fridays, and up to 6 or 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The New Jersey fitness centers span from 12,000 to 16,000 square feet. You can join Retro Fitness for $19.99 a month as of September 2010.
Social Organization Fitness Club
The New Jersey Alliance of YMCA consists of 44 Ys across the state. Some locations include Gloucester County YMCA, Burlington County YMCA, Hunterdon County YMCA, Ocean County YMCA and YMCA of Ridgewood. With a membership, you can join over 90 fitness classes. Each Y has a circuit room, gym and fitness center. Also, the Y offers a variety of programs, such as swim lessons, sports clinics and kickboxing classes.
Neighborhood Fitness Club
Gloucester County is home to Club Fitness in Westville, New Jersey. This family-owned fitness center has helped the community stay fit since 1998. Club Fitness spans 15,000 square feet with exercise machines, such as Cybex Precor, Life Fitness and Hammer Strength. You can stop by the on-site juice bar to order a protein or meal replacement shake. Children can attend the Kids Club to participate in a variety of activities. If you desire a tan, Club Fitness has three tanning beds. Also, the center offers a post rehab program for people who have had an injury. Group exercise classes include a mixed martial arts, Spinning© and abs class. The facility is open Mondays through Fridays from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
