RV Parks Near King's Dominion in Virginia

King's Dominion, located in Doswell, Virginia features 400 acres of theme park, including thrill rides, children and family rides, live shows, a water park and more than 30 places to eat lunch or dinner, or grab a snack in between. Families traveling by RV can camp at the Kings Dominion Campground, located two minutes from the park. Other RV parks are available within 15 to 30 minutes of the park.

Accommodations

Pull-through sites are available at Kings Dominion Campground, Kosmo Village in Glen Allen and Kampgrounds of America (KOA) in Richmond. All of the campgrounds offer hookups with 50 amp service, water and sewer. Kings Dominion has 244 sites and can accommodate both large and small RVs, Kosmo Village has 17 sites for up to 85-foot RVs, and the maximum RV length at KOA is 62 feet.

Amenities

All three campgrounds offer free wireless Internet and pets are permitted. Kings Dominion and KOA have in-season swimming pools and miniature golf courses. Kings Dominion also offers a volleyball court, playground, camp store, laundry facilities, game room, two bath houses and a lodge with Direct TV. Facilities are available for filling potable water tanks. It also provides free shuttle service to the theme park. KOA has a pavilion and meeting room for large groups and a modem data port is available. Kosmo Village has no public restroom or shower facilities.

Activities

After thoroughly exploring the theme park, there are plenty of other activities to keep the family busy or provide a relaxing diversion. KOA features activities for children including games, hayrides, crafts and movies. The campground also holds ice cream socials and wine and cheese gatherings. KOA has a stocked fishing lake and a golf course is located just a half mile from the campground.

Attractions

Nearby attractions from Kings Dominion Campground include historical sites associated with the civil war such as Hanover Junction, where the Virginia Central and the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac railroads intersected and the North Anna Battlefield. From the KOA, Richmond offers antique shopping, world class rose gardens and a historic district that includes restaurants and shops.

Tips

In addition to single day admission tickets, Kings Dominion offers two-day tickets where guests can choose which two days they want to visit. In addition, tickets purchased three days or more in advance are discounted. The savings for 2010 is $15. Season passes are also available.
