Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is located on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The area offers limitless year-round activities and is famous for its natural hot springs pool. Camping is one way to enjoy the outdoors and have close access to all the activities Glenwood Springs has to offer.
Campgrounds
The White River National Forest offers many campsites throughout the park. Most sites are open from May through September. Some campsites accept reservations. Making a reservation is a good idea, especially if you will be traveling during a holiday weekend. As of 2010, campsites vary in cost from $8 to more than $100.
Cabins and RV Sites
Several locations offer cabin sand RV hook-ups for an alternative to tent camping. Glenwood Canyon Resort is located only three miles from the hot springs and offers several cabin options, RV hook-ups and tent sites. The resort is open year-round and reservations are suggested. As of 2010, RV sites range from $39 to $50 per night and cabins start at $45 per night.
Hot Springs
The Glenwood Hot Springs Pool stretches to over two blocks long and is the largest hot springs pool in the world. The pool is kept at a temperature of 90 to 93 degrees F and is open year-round. The smaller therapy pool is kept at 104 degrees F. The pool also features diving boards, water slides and tubes.
Summer Activites
Glenwood Springs offers a number of summer activities. There are miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding in the White River National Forest. In addition, campers can enjoy white water rafting or kayaking in the Colorado River. Anglers can fish for trout in the Colorado River, Roaring Fork River or the Ruedi Reservoir.
Winter Activities
In the winter, campers can enjoy the trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Ice skating is available at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Also, be sure to take advantage of Colorado's Rocky Mountains with a day of skiing or snowboarding at the Sunlight Mountain Resort. The resort features a 2,010 foot vertical drop and has runs available for all skill levels.
