Encompassing the cities of Daytona, Orlando, and Kissimmee, Central Florida is a vacation destination for people from all over the United States. Because of the favorable climate and high number of tourist attractions, there are numerous full-hookup RV parks open to visitors year-round. With that environment also come plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun--from hiking and biking to ocean activities like kayaking and surfing.

Orlando Area

In the Orlando area, the big tourist attractions are Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios Florida, with about 50 million people visiting each year. To cater to that high volume of tourists, there are numerous RV parks, hotels, and other accommodations in the area. Most RV parks in the area are world-class and offer a wide array of amenities, including swimming pools, hot showers, laundry facilities and camp stores. On top of that, some cater more specifically to those looking for added recreation.

The Orlando Winter Garden offers added recreational activities right on-site, including exercise classes, basketball, shuffleboard and fishing in the campground pond. Another notable RV park is Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, located on more than 700 acres. The park offers full hookups, including cable TV and Internet, bike rentals, fishing, hiking and swimming.

Kennedy Space Center

The Kennedy Space Center is another big draw for tourists in Central Florida. Located near the Atlantic Ocean, RV parks in this area gives you ample access to beach activities like swimming, boating and surfing. A number of RV resorts cater to the active traveler. At The Great Outdoors in Titusville, you get full hookups and cable television, along with outdoor amenities including fishing, nature trails and golfing. Jetty Park Campground in Cape Canaveral offers full hookups for RVs right along the waterfront. Added amenities include playgrounds, pier fishing and swimming at Cocoa Beach.

Daytona

While many of the activities in the area pertain to auto racing, motorcycle events and partying, there are also many outdoor activities to enjoy in the area. Daytona Beach is home to several parasailing companies, and you can also rent a horse for an oceanside walk. The Daytona Beach KOA campground offers bicycle rentals on-site, as well as nearby access to Daytona Beach, which locals call "the world's most famous beach." At the Daytona Beach RV Resort, you'll get access to shuffleboard courts and a children's wading pool. If you're looking for healthy fare in Daytona, check out the Daytona farmers market.

It may be difficult to get reservations during Speed Weeks in February, Bike Week in March, the opening of the NASCAR season in July, Biketoberfest in October and the Turkey Rod Run in November.

Climate

Like most of the rest of the state, Central Florida is known for its hot and humid climate. During the summer months, high temperatures are around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with as much as 8 inches of rain per month. To prepare for those conditions, drink plenty of water while doing outdoor activities, and pack plenty of sunscreen for the intense Florida sun. Also make sure your RV's awnings are waterproofed and your air conditioner is working properly.

Safety

With millions of people touring through Central Florida each year, there is the potential for theft or vandalism at area RV parks. Most RV parks are gated and fenced, with limited access to outsiders. Still, if you're going to be leaving your campsite, be sure any outdoor gear like kayaks and bicycles are secured. Anytime you're traveling, it's also a good idea to have some type of valuable property insurance for your gear. Many insurance companies allow you to add coverage to your homeowner's or renter's policy for valuable gear like bikes and boats.
