Contact lens wearers understand the importance of cleaning their lenses on a daily basis. Disinfecting their eyewear extends the life of the contacts and reduces the risk of developing a potentially dangerous eye infection. A contact lens case, the "home" of the lenses overnight, should be thought of as an extension of the contact lens, and should be cleaned on a regular basis.
Step 1
Clean contact lens cases after you have put in your lenses for the day. Remove any solid matter or debris that may have fallen into the case, with your fingers. Rinse each section of the case with the same contact lens cleaning solution that you use to disinfect your lenses. If you do not have the solution with you, rinse the case with hot water.
Step 2
Allow your clean contact lens case to air dry, upside down on a clean towel. If you do not have time for air drying, gently wipe dry with a soft cloth or towel. Cover the case when dry to prevent dust and other airborne particles from dirtying the case.
Step 3
Replace your contact lens case each month, or more frequently if a bacteria growth recurs or if the case cracks or shows other signs of wear. Older cases may increase the risk of contaminating your lenses, which can lead to eye infections.
