Fitness Clubs in Phoenix, Arizona

Even a seasoned health buff will have a difficult time choosing a fitness center in Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix has several national chains, local chains, luxury and family-oriented health clubs, and personal trainers throughout the metro area. Step classes, Pilates, cardio, weightlifting and martial arts are just a few of the ways members can keep in shape a Phoenix fitness center.

Chain Fitness Centers

The Great Phoenix area is home to many well-known health and fitness chains. 24-Hour Fitness has three locations in Phoenix. The club at 32nd and Bell has cardio equipment, group cycling and exercises classes. Enjoy the sauna, whirlpool or steam room after a workout. Personal trainers are available to help you with your fitness plans for an additional fee. The other two Phoenix locations, on Camel Back Road and on Metro Parkway, are full-fledged sports facilities, with indoor pools. The Metro Parkway location has a basketball court, a lounge and a pro shop. Bally’s Fitness has four locations in the metro Phoenix area, including one on Indian School Road with a Spanish-speaking staff and an abundance of weightlifting equipment.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing , which combines karate, boxing and Muay Thai techniques, can help people lose weight, relieve stress, or train to be a professional kickboxer or martial artist. Universal Kickboxing in Phoenix offers freestyle kickboxing lessons for students age 13 and older. They also teach jiu-jitsu, a Brazilian martial art that resembles wrestling. 1on1 Boxing Fitness, in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, teaches kickboxing to improve strength and coordination. They feature a personal training program called Revolution Training which incorporates boxing, indoor cycling, jump rope, and other activities to tone and improve a client’s physical condition. Several general fitness centers, like Fitness West on Indian School Road, Bally's and Gold's Gyms, provide kickboxing classes for members.

Fitness Network of Arizona

The Fitness Network of Arizona, formed in 1985, consists of a group of independent fitness center in Metro Phoenix. The group is dedicated to providing excellent fitness centers at low cost to local residents. As of August 2010, the FNA had eight locations, six in Phoenix and two in neighboring Scottsdale. All feature circuit and weightlifting equipment, exercise classes. Some centers, like Central Park Athletic Club in downtown Phoenix, have an indoor swimming pool. Membership in one of the clubs will be honored at all locations.

Athletic Clubs With Spa and Golf Club Options

The Arizona Grand Resort, a AAA Four Diamond resort in Phoenix, offers guests a golf course, spa, water park, dining and deluxe hotel accommodations. It also has an on-site athletic club, the Arizona Grand Athletic Club, with three types of membership packages - the Golf Club Membership, the Executive Membership and the Desert Bloom Spa Membership. The Executive Membership includes use of three racquetball courts, a heated five lane pool, and two sessions with a personal trainer. Packages are available for individuals, couples and families. The spa package includes facials and massages, while the golf membership allows members unlimited tee times at the Arizona Grand Resort course as well as full use of the fitness center.

YMCA

The Young Men’s Christian’s Association, known commonly as the Y or YMCA, has a variety of classes for adults and children in the Phoenix area. People who live in Christown, Ahwatukee, Tempe or downtown Phoenix have access to fully-equipped Y locations with classes in cardio, kickboxing, Zumba, yoga and Pilates. New Moms can even take a “stroller” exercise class with their babies. Swimming and aquatic lessons are available at many locations, including Lincoln Family downtown and South Mountain. Full YMCA members pay a lower fee for classes.
