Ingredients in the Original Xenadrine Rfa-1

Xenadrine Rfa-1 is a dietary supplement used to lose weight. Xenadrine Rfa-1 original formula came with ephreda. Ephedra is now banned in supplements by the FDA due to risk of heart attack, so a different formula is now on the market with the less effective caffeine as the main ingredient. The FDA does not approve of this supplement to treat obesity or to be used for weight loss, as no supplements are approved to treat any diseases.

Ephedra

Xenadrine Rfa-1 contains 335 mg of the herb ma huang, which is equivalent to 20 mg of ephedrine, or ephedra. Ephedra is a stimulant which is no longer considered safe in the United States by the FDA due to its ability to cause heart attacks in users that do not know they have a heart problem. Ephedra was the most effective stimulant available over the counter for weight loss until its removal from the market.

Vitamins

Xenadrine contains 40 mg of pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, which is an important factor in metabolism of food.

Herbs

Xenadrine contains 85 mg of bitter orange, an herb used for weight loss and appetite suppression. Xenadrine also contains 910 mg of guarana extract, which is a natural source of caffeine and thus serves as an appetite suppressant. It is unclear why Xenadrine contains 105 mg of white willow bark, as white willow bark does not have any known weight-loss properties and is usually used to treat pain or flu symptoms. Xenadrine contains 50 mg of ginger root, which is normally used to treat nausea and other gastrointestinal problems. Xenadrine also contains 225 mg of a proprietary thermo synergist blend, which may have appetite-suppressant or metabolism-increasing properties.

Inactive Ingredients

Inactive ingredients in Xenadrine Rfa-1 include the gelatin capsule, which contains gelatin, titanium dioxide and FD&C Blue #1. Gelatin is a filler and coating, titanium dioxide is a "pearling" agent that makes pills white and shiny and FD&C Blue #1 is a blue food coloring. Xenadrine also includes magnesium stearate and silica. Magnesium stearate is an oil that increases the speed of supplement manufacturing by making the Xenadrine pill mix flow faster, and silica is a filler and moisture repellent.
