A high protein diet is a great way to transform your body mass from fat into lean muscle mass. Athletes, bodybuilders and anyone who exercises regularly should eat about a gram of protein per pound of body weight in order to maintain their current weight. If you want to gain muscle weight, then eat 1.5g of protein per pound body weight. The real trick isn't eating protein but figuring out how to get that much protein into your diet.

Eggs

Eggs are nature's protein snack at 6g of protein per egg. Eating an omelet for breakfast or adding eggs to any meal is an excellent way to bulk up your diet. If you plan to eat eggs frequently, more than three a day, you may want to remove the yolk which contains nearly 5g of fat.

Lean Meat

Beef, venison, pork and other red meats are hearty sources of protein. A single serving of lean beef can contain up to 25g of protein. Like eggs, red meat is a rich source of natural, healthy fat at nearly 15g per serving. If you plan on eating a lot of meat each day, you may want to drain the fat whenever possible.

Dairy

Milk, yogurt and especially cheese are loaded with protein and other vital nutrients. Just one cup of cottage cheese can contain as much as 25g of protein. If you are on a low carb diet or concerned about low fat, buy low fat dairy products and check the nutrition label to find food without added sugars.

Nuts

Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, pistachios and other nuts are the best natural snack for a high protein diet. Some nuts contain up to 15g of protein per serving, but be careful not to overindulge because nuts also have a lot of fat, as much as 35g per serving, and the calories can add up fast if you're not careful.
