According to Dr. Philip Young, a Seattle-based plastic surgeon, deep wrinkles have several causes, including loss of volume, skin damage, and progressive changes to the skin caused by continual muscle movement. Because these causes are all part of the natural process of aging, the appearance of wrinkles is almost unavoidable. However, there are many treatment options available, some easy and others more invasive, to soften deep facial wrinkles.
Step 1
Scrub your skin with a skin wash or exfoliant at least twice a day, suggests the University of Maryland Medical Center. Doing so helps resurface your skin, eliminating damaged cells and reducing the depth of wrinkles.
Step 2
Apply an anti-wrinkle cream everyday. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, retinol and tretinoin-based wrinkle creams are two of the most effective skincare treatments. Retinol, which is available over-the-counter, and tretinoin, a prescription medication, both firm the skin and prevent wrinkles.
Step 3
Wear sunscreen year round, suggests the American Academy of Dermatology. Sun damage is one of the leading causes of facial wrinkles. Applying a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twenty minutes before going outside reduces sun damage on skin, preventing the deepening of wrinkles.
Step 4
Have a chemical peel treatment, which uses a chemical solution applied to the outer layer of the skin to stimulate new skin growth. The new skin tends to be smoother and more even in color, says the American Academy of Dermatology.
Step 5
Have a microdermabrasion or dermabrasion treatment. These are non-invasive procedures that use abrasive instruments to smooth the skin, effectively sanding away the outer layers. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, these treatments are long-lasting and result in a rejuvenated appearance.
