Wrinkles are found on various parts of the body but are especially prevalent on the face. Wrinkles appear to be lines that tend to run either evenly or asymmetrical on the face. There are several reasons why people have wrinkles. Some people are more genetically inclined to have more than others. Many people wish to treat their wrinkles by attempting to eliminate them in order to have smoother and younger looking skin.
Causes
The main causes of wrinkles are age and smoking. There is really no way to prevent wrinkles from occurring except for daily skin care. People who are exposed to certain occupations may be at a greater risk of developing wrinkles. Those who work outside in construction or on a farm may have excessive exposure to the sun, causing them to possibly have wrinkles at a younger age. People who spend a lot of time in a tanning booth or sunbathing may put themselves at greater risk for developing more wrinkles than someone who uses UV protection. Some people inherit their skin type from their families. This means they could have more wrinkles than other people their age.
Types
There are generally two types of wrinkles; deep furrows and fine surface lines. Deep furrows can be caused from a variety of things such as hereditary, excessive skin damage, facial expression and old acne scars. This type of wrinkle is very hard to treat with over-the-counter medications and creams. Cosmetic surgery or facial peels may be recommended by a dermatologist. Fine surface lines are often the beginning of deep furrows and can be minimized by using a cream that contains vitamin A, hydroxy acids, moisturizer and antioxidants.
Significance
Some people don't mind living with wrinkles. Some refer to wrinkles as being a symbol of wisdom and intelligence. Most people choose to eliminate wrinkles so they can appear younger and have a fresher looking face. The significance of treating wrinkles that appear on the face is so you can have a boost in self-confidence or feel like you are reclaiming your youth.
Treatment
There are several different methods used to treat wrinkles. Dermatologists can prescribe topical creams and medicines that include glycolic and lactic acid, vitamins A, C and E and creams that contain beta-carotene. There are also several cosmetic procedures that can be done to help minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Examples of procedures may include acid peels, micro-dermabrasion, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, Botox, fillers and radio frequency treatment.
Prevention
There are certain ways to prevent wrinkles. The most important way is to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen at all times when being exposed to ultraviolet light. Minimizing your time in direct sunlight will help to prevent wrinkles from forming on exposed areas as the years go by. Keeping skin moisturized is also equally important. Whether in the sun or not, moisturizer should be applied to the skin at least once a day. Taking special care of your face by using a moisturizing cream will help to combat wrinkles that form on the face.
