Making your own BMX bike ramp remains a great way to learn the fundamentals of ramp riding before taking your bike to a BMX park. Mastering the basics on your homemade BMX ramp will help you to avoid injury when attempting to ride on the larger ramps of the BMX park. Even the inexperienced ramp builder can create the basic wedge ramp design. The wedge ramp will allow you to learn how to catch air and perform tricks on your BMX bike.
Step 1
Lay your 4 x 8 sheet of plywood on the ground of your construction site. Draw a straight line dividing the rectangular plywood into two squares that measure 4 x 4 feet. Saw the plywood in half following your pencil line with the blade of your jigsaw.
Step 2
Place the two newly cut squares on top of each other to determine they have identical dimensions. Lay one of the squares on the ground of your construction site. Extend your measuring tape from the bottom right corner to the top left corner. Sketch a pencil line from corner to corner while using the measuring tape to keep the line straight.
Step 3
Saw the square in half following your pencil line with the blade of your jigsaw. This will give you two triangle-shaped pieces. Place the two triangle pieces to the side---these will function as your wedge ramp sides. Saw the five pieces of 2 x 4 directly in half using the jigsaw to create 4-foot long supports for your wedge ramp.
Step 4
Adjoin the two sides of your wedge ramp by nailing six of your newly cut supports between them. Fasten the six supports 16 inches apart along the outer edges of the triangles that possesses an L shape. Hammer two of the 1-inch nails into the opposing ends of the supports to fasten the sides of your wedge ramp together.
Step 5
Attach the four leftover supports 8 inches apart along the inclined edge of the triangle sides of your wedge ramp. Hammer two nails through the opposing ends of your four supports. Lower the second square plywood sheet onto the four supports of your wedge ramp to create the inclined ramp face.
Step 6
Hammer two nails through the wedge ramp face and into the top and bottom underlying support. Transport your newly constructed wedge ramp to a paved surface. Pedal your BMX bike up and off the wedge ramp to examine its durability.
