Winsor Pilates is the brainchild of Mari Winsor, who is often referred to as the "Pilates Coach of the Stars." Although she has two studios, one in Hollywood and the other in Santa Monica, California, Winsor has also authored a number of books, and created a variety of exercise DVDs.
History of Winsor Pilates
In 1990, Winsor opened a Pilates studio in Los Angeles. However, at the time, she was not a certified Pilates instructor. In fact, her workout was actually a Pilates-based program, which she called "Dynamic Sequencing." In 1992, Winsor decided to study with Romana Kryzanowska,, who trained with Joseph Pilates in his original studio in New York City. She earned her instructor certification after one year of study.

Winsor's celebrity roster of clients includes Minnie Driver, Meg Ryan, Drew Barrymore, Daisy Fuentes, Jewel, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone and Marisa Tomei.
Mari Winsor Books
Winsor's "The Pilates Pregnancy: Maintaining Strength, Flexibility, and Your Figure" offer trimester by trimester modifications of the Pilates exercises. She is also the author of "The Pilates Powerhouse," which describes how the core muscles are used in the various Pilates exercises.
Winsor Pilates Videos
Winsor has a number of videos on the market, which include the Bun and Thigh Sculpting: Sculpt Your Body Slim and Ab Sculpting: Sculpt Your Body Slim. She has also created Pilates DVDs that use the small exercise ball and the fitness circle.
Winsor Pilates Sequencing
Winsor claims that the sequencing of her exercise, which she calls "Dynamic Sequencing" is the secret to the program's success. Although she is trained in the traditional Pilates method, her exercises do not follow the traditional Pilates sequence. Instead, they are designed to be performed with minimal transition time between exercises. They are also performed at a relatively fast pace. The routines are composed of traditional Pilates exercises. However, some are performed with a small ball, which is not part of the original Pilates series of exercises.
Unique Features
The Winsor Pilates program also includes a diet plan, which is called the "Win in a 10-Meal Plan." While this is a unique feature of Pilates exercise programs, the 1200 calorie diet may not provide sufficient energy for highly active individuals.
