Zephyr Hills, Florida is known as the "City of Pure Water," according to the city government's web page. Zephyr Hills celebrates its commitment to healthy living by regularly offering activities for people of all ages, including elders. Elders can participate in the city's small-town activities, including a range of events honoring Zephyr Hills' heritage and neighborly community.

Festivals, Dances and Parades

Zephyr Hills, Florida offers year-round festivals, dances and parades open to people of all ages, including elders. These events promote healthy living with opportunities for physical activity, engaging with neighbors and celebrating the turn of the seasons. You can attend a springtime Barn Dance, an art show sponsored by the Zephyrhills Art Club, an autumnal Harvest Festival and holiday Festival of Lights. Zephyr Hills also offers other outdoor music festivals appealing for elders, including the Florida Old Time Music Championship and Original Bluegrass Festival.

Bicycling

The Allen Road Bicycle Center, located in Zephyr Hills, Florida, sponsors a weekly Sunday bicycle ride geared for riders of all ages and skill levels. The road ride, entitled "Wheels of Zephyrhills," meets on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in front of the bicycle center.

Swimming

Elders can enjoy swimming at the Hercules Aquatic Center, which in 2010 is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and then again from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays, the pool open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then again from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hours on Sundays run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. "Dive-in" movies are offered on alternate Saturday nights for all ages, including elders. Daily admission for adults is $3 in 2010 and swimming lessons can be purchased at $40 for eight lessons. You can also enjoy water aerobics offered on weekdays from 11 a.m. to noon

Tennis and Golf

Zephyrhills Tennis offers both private and group tennis lessons, with special offers for weekday evening clinics for all ages. The Silverado Gold & Country Club is located just north of Zephyr Hills. On Sundays in 2010, the club offers "Sunday Scrambles," where golfers of all ages can play 18 holes for $25, including a golf cart, prizes and lunchtime sandwich. You can enjoy the course's natural oak trees and perhaps spot red-tail hawks, egrets, ducks, geese or foxes.

Honoring the Past

Healthy communities honor the past, including respect for elders. Zephyr Hills celebrates its Annual Founders Day each March with a parade and outdoor picnic. Pioneer Day festivities offer folk music, arts, craft and historical presentations by the Pioneer Florida Museum. Elders may also choose to visit Zephyr Hills' World War II Barracks Museum or take a self-guided walking tour around the city's historical buildings.
