Agranulocytosis

According to the National Institutes of Health, agranulocytosis is the failure of the bone marrow to make enough white blood cells. Lack of enough white blood cells places patients at high risk of infections.
Interstitial Nephritis
Drugs.com states that long-term use of Aciphex may cause interstitial nephritis. Interstitial nephritis is the inflammation of the spaces between kidney tubules. The inflammation of may cause signs and symptoms of acute kidney failure. Signs of acute kidney failure include decreased urination, swelling of the body, sudden weight gain, confusion and coma.
Fractures
According to Drugs.com, long-term use of Aciphex may lead to bone fractures of the wrist, spine and hip. Bone fractures are more common in adults older than 50. Aciphex should be avoided by patients with osteoporosis to avoid further bone loss. Doctors should prescribe lower doses of Aciphex and for the shortest duration to avoid fractures.
