Insurmountable exposure of chemicals and toxins from poor diets, environmental pollutions, smoking, personal hygiene products and radiation from modern technology all slow the body and inhibit it from effectively producing energy and functioning as a well-oiled machine. Internally cleansing the body through herbal diet tea helps to eliminate toxic waste, excess fat, fluid buildup and old, hardened fecal mater that rob bodies of optimal health.

Dandelion

Dandelion tea (Taraxacum officinali) enhances the ability of the liver and kidneys to break down and filter waste products and toxins. The root and the leaves are used as medicine and are rich in bitters, vitamin C, potassium and enzymatic-like substances that act as a cleanser. Dandelion tea acts as a gentle laxative within the gastrointestinal tract and helps in proper fat digestion. To make dandelion tea, cut off the flower tops (no green parts) and steep a handful in a cup of water for 20 minutes. Add a little sweetener to taste.

Triphala

Triphala, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is actually a combination of three fruits: amalaki, haritaki and bibitaki. Dating back 5,000 years, triphala was traditionally used as a digestive, mild laxative and wound and burn healer. In modern times, it's referred to as an intestinal "cleanser," improving digestion and elimination. Triphala is effective in burning fat and flushing toxins after a cold or flu. Triphala tea is made by stirring 1/2 to 1 tsp. of the powder into a cup of hot water and letting it steep for five to 10 minutes. Add raw honey to taste.

Green Tea

Green tea is effective in weight loss and internal cleansing because of the many ingredients. The main green tea ingredients are caffeine, tannin (flavonols), theophylline, theobromine, wax, saponins, essential oils, polyphenols (catechins), carotene, vitamin C, vitamins A, B1, B12, K and P, flouride, iron, magnesium, calcium, strontium, copper, nickel and zinc. Antioxidants found in green tea fight cancer, heart disease, stroke, aging, diabetes and many other serious conditions. Green tea contains thermogenic (calorie-burning) properties that increase the body's ability to burn calories. It causes carbohydrates to be released slowly, preventing rises in blood-insulin levels and causing the body to burn fat more effectively.

According to a study conducted at Maastricht University in The Netherlands, green tea contains polyphenols that cause your body to produce heat that burns off body fat. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, author of "The Perricone Weight Loss Diet," claims that you can lose up to 10 lbs. in four to six weeks doing nothing but taking green tea. Green tea increases your daily fat-burning rate by 43 percent and contains many antioxidants that reverse the aging process. To make green tea, brew 1½ heaping tsp. loose leaf green tea leaves in 8 oz. water for 20 to 30 minutes. Drink as often as you like throughout the day.

Milk Thistle Tea

Milk thistle is considered an effective liver tonic used to perform herbal internal cleansing. The silymarin in milk thistle works to bind the cells in the liver, shielding the organ and its cells from toxin attacks. Milk thistle is available in pure seed form or extract. Add extract to hot water to make tea. To improve taste and to increase the effectiveness of the milk thistle tea, add 1 tbsp. peppermint leaves. Drink two to three cups of tea throughout the day.

Ginger and Lemon Herbal Tea

Ginger, a plant that comes from southeast Asia, is now also cultivated in many tropical areas. Ginger is well known for its powerful circulation and stimulating properties, making it an effective herbal tea for internal cleansing. It's used as a home remedy for indigestion, nausea and protection from colds, flu and sore throats. Lemon contains vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant. Ginger is available in powder form that can be mixed with hot water and lemon to make tea.
