Minnesota Campgrounds

Minnesota is a landscape filled with inland lakes, grasslands, dense forests, rivers, waterfalls and rocky shorelines. While camping in the state you find a campsite that offers lakeside views such as those at Zippel Bay, waterfall hikes such as those around Temperance River State Park and canoeing adventures on the waterways in Voyageurs National Park.

National Park Camping

Voyageurs National Park is located on the northern Minnesota border. The park is a water environment consisting of the Kabetogama Peninsula, Rainy Lake and Kabetogama Lake. All campsites in the park are accessible only from the water and require a canoe or boat to reach. Campsites are located on the water and are dispersed individually throughout the park. There are no drinking water or restroom facilites at the campsites. You can camp along an inland lake at a hike-in campsite on the peninsula. If you plan to backpack in the park you will still need a boat to reach the trailhead.

Lakeside Camping

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and the speckled landscape is a testament to the nickname. Zippel Bay National Park is located on Lake of the Woods in the northern reaches of the state. The park has drive-in campsites, a swimming beach, and a marina. The park campground has 57 sites with indoor showers and outhouses. Six miles of hiking trials surround the park and a fishing pier is located in the bay area.

Lake Superior Camping

Temperance River State Park surrounds the mouth of Temperance River on the shores of Lake Superior. You can explore the parks waterfalls, forests and rocky shoreline along the 22 miles of hiking trails in the park. The park campground has 52 drive-in campsites, 18 RV sites with electrical hookups and six walk-in campsites for tents. Indoors showers and restrooms are available seasonally at the campground and outhouses are available year-round.

Prairie Camping

Lac qui Parle State Park in southwest Minnesota is set among the grasslands and lakes characteristic of the Great Plains region. While visiting the park you can take a prairie hike, fish or swim in the lake or take a horse back tour of the park. Camping in the park is divided into two campgrounds: the Upper campground and the lower campground. The upper campground has 43 drive-in campsites, 37 sites with electrical hookups and three walk-in tent campsites. The upper campground also features indoor showers and restrooms. The lower campground has 24 sites, 10 of which have electric hookups. Showers outhouses are located on-site.

RV Camping

Located throughout Minnesota, KOA Campgrounds, a nationwide RV campground chain, provide a consistent array of amenities including RV sites, tent camping and rental cabins. Minnesota's eight locations include two near Minneapolis and St. Paul, on in on Lake Bemidji in northern Minnesota and four in the southern portion of the state. Each Minnesota location features a pool, camp store and wireless Internet service.
