Forest Manor Multi-Service Center
The Forest Manor Multi-Service Center is a well-established not-for-profit organization, primarily aiding single mothers and their children in eastern Indianapolis. Besides offering services to children and young mothers, the center provides a Senior Enrichment Program that is a social center for seniors in addition to a health center, where seniors can get medical and dental exams on a monthly basis. In addition to exercise classes for seniors, the community center provides recreational activities like board games, card games and arts and crafts. They are also focused on continuing education for seniors, with safe sex, nutrition, health and computer classes.
The Canal and White River State Park
The Indiana Central Canal and White River State Park harbors a series of activities that are pleasant and welcoming to seniors. For seniors seeking a place to walk or bicycle, there is a three-mile loop along the canal. If you are looking for a change and feeling adventurous, there are Segway Tours along the canal, run by Segway of Indiana. White River State Park is an inner-city state park, home to art and music programming, from Irish Fest to summer concerts on The Lawn.
Indianapolis Senior Center
The Indianapolis Senior Center is located in downtown Indianapolis, on East Michigan Street. The center offers a range of services and classes. The Life Strides Fitness Center provides aerobics and strength-building exercises, from walking to water aerobics. For seniors seeking recreational activities, there are dance classes, foreign language classes, choral groups and volunteer opportunities with children.
Indianapolis Parks and Recreation
Indianapolis Parks and Recreation encompasses 206 parks, sports complexes for everything from BMX biking to girls' soccer, golf courses and greenways. Seniors can participate in a variety of activities that Parks and Recreation has to offer--there is programming specifically for mature adults, from free senior aerobics and volunteer opportunities to senior bowling at Hindel Lanes at a discounted rate.
