New Jersey is one of the major sporting hotspots on the east coast of the United States. Ice hockey, in particular, is a sport that is taken very seriously there. Apart from being home to the New Jersey Devils, one of the leading NHL teams, there are numerous ice rinks situated in every one of the six state regions.
Skylands
ProTecHockey Ice Skating Rink is located in Somerset County. It is an indoor rink, open to the public year-round. The facility provides ice skating sessions and lessons in both regular ice skating and figure skating. Ice hockey programs and leagues are open to adults and youths. Two less common activities that can be tried are pickup hockey and broomball. The rink is available for group rental and parties.
Gateway
The Ice House, situated in the city of Hackensack in Bergen County, is the largest ice hockey venue in New Jersey. It features four regulation-size NHL rinks and has a seating capacity of 1,250 spectators. The venue is open for public skating from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week. While it opens later on the weekends, there are also evening sessions available until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
Princeton Sports Center, in Middlesex County, boasts a new twin-rink facility offering a wide range of hockey classes for both children and adults. It provides weekly academy classes for each age group over an eight-week schedule.
Shore
Wall Sports Arena, in Farmingdale, Monmouth County, is a three-rink facility that offers ice skating, figure skating and hockey leagues for the public year-round.
Red Bank Armory Ice Complex, also in Monmouth County, offers different activities on different days. Training and development programs are available in hockey and skating. The facility also hosts hockey leagues. The rink is open for public skating one evening a week.
Delaware River Area
The Mercer County Skating Center, in West Windsor, spans over five acres in Mercer County Park. Its main purpose is providing an outdoor skating service for the public, but the rink also caters to ice hockey.
Medford Ice Rink, in Burlington County, is a high-quality ice surface that is open to the public year-round.
Ice Land, in Hamilton Township, runs a number of hockey courses for all ages as well as organized skating lessons. Public skating is available at specific times throughout the day.
South Shore
The Vineland Ice Arena, in Cumberland County, comprises two regulation-sized ice rinks, each able to hold around 430 spectators. It is one of four U.S.-based arenas in partnership with multipurpose entertainment company Canlan Ice Sports. The facility hosts a number of hockey leagues, both recreational and professional. The venue also offers skating programs for people of all ages and skill levels.
Atlantic City
Flyers Skate Zone Ice Skating Rink, in Atlantic City, is open seasonally in June. It is an indoor rink that offers the community ice skating and figure skating lessons. Hockey leagues and programs are also available.
