Dog parks are a great way for dogs to enjoy time off the leash exercising, playing and socializing with other dogs. Anoka County, Minnesota, has a dog park within Locke County Park. The park has an off-leash area just for you and your furry friend to enjoy.

Location/Directions

The dog park is located in the city of Fridley in Anoka County. To get to the park, take the University Avenue service road to the area just south of 73rd Avenue. The road to access the dog park is 71st Avenue just off the service road.

Description

The dog park is 1.5 acres of fenced in land within the Locke County Park, which the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department operates. The grounds are covered with wood chips and a portion of the off-leash area is wooded. Seating consists of two picnic tables inside the fenced-in area.

Hours

The dog park is open all year and has the same hours as the Locke County Park. The park opens at 6 a.m. and closes 30 minutes after sunset. The public is not allowed inside the park after hours without obtaining a permit.

Before You Go

Make sure your dog is current with licenses and vaccinations before going to the dog park. All dogs entering the off-leash area must meet these requirements. Since the dog park does not contain a water faucet, bring water for your dog. If you have a female dog in heat, do not go to the dog park. Dogs in heat are not allowed in the dog park.

Park Rules

It is important to follow the rules of the dog park to make playtime fun and safe for everyone. Keep your dog leashed when going to or leaving the park and keep a leash in your possession in case your dog needs to be restrained or removed for any reason. Because it is important that owners keep an eye on their dogs while they are off-leash, do not bring more than three dogs with you.

Maintain control over your pet and stay within sight of your dog at all times while in the park. Aggressive or unruly behavior is not allowed; if your dog gets overly aggressive, you must immediately put it back on the leash. If you bring children with you to the park, you must always keep them under close supervision as well. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pet and for any damages or injuries caused by your dog while inside the park. You should also prevent your dog from digging and barking constantly or frequently inside the park.
