What To Look For
Due to their shape, number of rooms and straight walls, cabin tents are often referred to as walled tents. Check for cross-mesh windows or wall covering to allow for proper ventilation. Canvas is a breathable material and reduces the moisture condensation concern. Tents made of canvas or a poly canvas cotton blend are usually waterproof and offer more protection against inclement weather conditions. Good waterproof flooring is made of nylon or welded polyethylene. Making the structure sturdier, high-quality cabin tents have reinforced frames.
Common Pitfalls
Cabin tents with vertical walls and a modified dome roof sometimes lack in headroom. Avoid steel poles as they are heavy to handle and store plus will eventually rust. An oddly shaped cabin tent or one too large may not fit on the tent pad at the campground. Also, bigger tents don't provide as much warmth in cooler weather conditions.
Where To Buy
Discount stores carry a limited line of tents in their sporting goods sections, so the selection of cabin tents may be scarce. Purchasing online is another viable option that allows for easy comparison shopping to obtain the best price. Sporting goods and outdoor outfitter stores stock cabin tents of higher quality and generally have trained personnel to assist you.
