Facial hair on the neck is either light and fine or dark and coarse. In either case, it can be bothersome and cause self-esteem problems when it appears. You basically have two options when it comes to removing this hair: Either do it yourself at home, or seek the help of an experienced professional.

Step 1

Trim the hair down with shears and shave the rest off. Plug in a set of electric shears and run them close to your skin to remove the hair. Moisten your skin with warm water and apply shaving cream. Take a clean razor blade and run it across your skin with moderate pressure. Wash the blade off under the sink every two or three swipes and continue until you've removed all the hair. Even though it is rumored that shaving will make hair grow back quicker, this is simply a myth.

Step 2

Visit an esthetician to get electrolysis. With this treatment, a needle gets inserted into each hair follicle, and a surge of electricity is sent to the tip. The hair root dies, and the hair ends up falling out. This type of treatment can offer you permanent results.

Step 3

Invest in a home waxing kit to quickly remove the hair. Heat up the wax and apply it to your neck with the applicator stick that comes with the kit. Do this in the direction of growth. Take out the cloth strip and flatten it out over your skin. Grip the top corner with your fingers, lift your chin up in the air and forcefully pull the strip off in a downward motion. Repeat in other areas of your neck if necessary.

Step 4

Dissolve your neck hair with a depilatory cream. Run a warm washcloth across your neck hair to make the hair soft. Spread the cream over your hair and let it set up. Place a damp washcloth on your neck and wipe the hair and cream off by applying moderate force. Repeat in all areas where you have neck hair.

Step 5

Grab a pair of tweezers to pull the hair out. Pinch the hair about a quarter of an inch away from your skin. Pull straight out in a steady motion, but do not yank. This can cause the hair to break off down inside the shaft. Repeat with all the hairs on your neck.

Tips and Warnings

  • Depilatory creams generally take 5 to 10 minutes to set up. Read the directions for specific times. Also, do not let the cream come in contact with your eyes, mouth or any broken skin.
  • When you are shaving, be aware of any moles you may have on your neck. It does not take much pressure to cut one of these open.
