If you are bored with your current strength training workouts and are looking for ways to work muscles differently, you may consider using an EZ bar for a few exercises in place of a regular barbell. An EZ bar is a weightlifting bar that differs from a straight barbell because of its shape. The EZ bar is bent in a strategic way that takes some of the pressure off of your wrists when performing bicep curls. This allows you to lift more weight and keep the pressure targeted on your biceps.

EZ Bar Curls

EZ bar bicep curls are similar to a regular standing bicep curl. To perform the exercise, position your hands on the bar curves so they face inward, toward each other with palms up. The position will be slightly closer than shoulder width apart. Keep your elbows next to your side and curl the bar up toward your shoulders. Perform in a controlled motion. Lower and repeat.

EZ Bar Concentration Curls

EZ Bar Concentration Curls also work your bicep muscles. To perform them, sit at the edge of a flat bench. Hold the EZ bar with an underhand grip. Bend slightly forward and rest your elbows inside your knees. Curl the barbell up toward your chin. Lower in a controlled motion. Repeat.

EZ Bar Preacher Curls

You will need a preacher curl bench to perform EZ bar preacher curls. While sitting on the bench, place your arms over the bench. Hold the EZ bar with an underhand grip. Curl up. Pause, and then lower and repeat. This exercise will also target your bicep muscles.

EZ Bar Tricep Extensions

The EZ bar may also be used to work the triceps. You may use the bar for lying tricep extensions. To perform the exercise, lie on a bench on your back. Have a partner hand you the EZ bar. Hold with an overhand grip, arms straight held up above your chest. Bend your arms at the elbow, bringing the bar down toward your head. Your upper arm should stay pointed up. When your elbow is bent to a 90 degree angle, flex your triceps to return the bar to the upright position. Repeat.

EZ Bar French Press

The EZ bar french press exercise will also work the triceps. The exercise is performed from a standing position. Hold the bar with an overhand grip. Raise it straight above your head. Begin the exercise by bending only at your elbows so the bar lowers behind your head. Flex your triceps to return the bar to the starting position.
