The Weight Watchers diet program realizes that sometimes you will find yourself at a drive-through window of your favorite fast food restaurant. For that reason, the standard Weight Watchers points values were extended to include popular fast food items. This way you can stay within your daily points while satisfying your fast food craving. Choosing the lowest point value items at fast food restaurants is the key to staying on track.
McDonald's
McDonald's has a few menu items that won't let your points totals go awry, but most of your choices will get you into trouble by the end of the day. On the lower end of the list is the regular hamburger with 5 points. A cheeseburger has 7 points, a Quarter Pounder 9 points, and a McChicken 8 points. A 4-piece McNuggets has 5 points, but if you want the 10-piece, your total jumps to 10 points. All McDonald's salads are less than 10 points without the dressing. Vinaigrette-type dressings are the lowest at 1 point. Eating just one selection is probably the wisest choice, as adding fries will give you 5 extra points for a small, 8 points for a medium and 11 points for a large.
Burger King
Hamburgers and cheeseburgers are good choices at Burger King, with 7 and 8 points respectively. A Whopper Junior with no mayo only has 6 points, and 9 points with mayo included. From there the point totals sky-rocket. A Whopper has 16 points, add cheese and it is 19 points, make it a double with cheese and you are at 23 points. The Original Chicken sandwich has 16 points, but only 9 if you ask for no mayo. Onion rings have 3, 7 and 10 points for small, medium and large. Fries range from 5 to 8 to 12 points.
A & W
The burgers at A & W should probably be avoided if you wish to stay within your daily points. A kid's hamburger is the lowest choice at 10 points, and it only gets worse from there. At the high end is the Papa burger with 18 points, and the double bacon cheeseburger at 19. A plain hot dog has 7 points, with the fries coming in at 6 points for the kid's and 9 points for a large. Onion rings are 8 points and a small root beer is 4 points.
KFC
Weight Watcher points at KFC have the potential to rise quickly if you combine different foods, but individually the more popular items are less than some of the other restaurants. The original drumstick is just 3 points, the thigh 7 points, and the breast is 9 points. A Crispy Twister is 12 points, 3-piece chicken strips are 6 points, and an individual Popcorn Chicken is 10 points.
