Allentown is one of the most populated cities in Pennsylvania. The population of Allentown is ranked third in the state, under Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. To compensate the large population, there are many activities to cater to all the residents of the city and the tourists that visit it.
Yoga
Allentown has multiple locations that give yoga classes. The Lehigh Valley Yoga Studios and West End Studios, both part of the Hatha Yoga umbrella company, have two locations in Allentown. Hatha yoga focuses on the physical aspects of yoga, such s posture, breathing exercises and cleansing techniques. There are two locations outside of Allentown in adjacent towns and the first class is always free. There are three levels of skill that are taught year-round, on specific days of the week.
Parks
The Lehigh Valley Parkway consists of two nature trails for running, an eight-mile bridle path for running, biking or walking. These trails are surrounded by lush greenery that cuts out a foot-print of mother earth in the metropolis of Allentown. Cutting the Parkway in half is the Little Lehigh River which can be waded through in spots, but for the most part can be kayaked or canoed on. At the south end of the Parkway is the Lil-Le-Hi Trout Nursery, which breeds and releases 30,000 mature trout into the wild annually. Neighboring high schools host Cross Country races and conduct training within the park. Annually, between November and January, the Lehigh Valley Parkway hosts "Lights in the Parkway"-- a celebration of the Christmas season with lights throughout the motor vehicle trail in the Parkway.
Golf Courses
The Allentown Municipal Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course that was designed and opened in 1952. The course was redesigned in 1998 and included new greens, sculpted bunkers and two new ponds. New tees were also constructed to improve playing conditions. The fairways had an irrigation system installed in the year 2000. Along with the 18-holes of play, the Allentown Municipal Golf Course also offers a lit driving range and short game practicing zone that consists of two practice putting greens. As for food service, the AMGC offers the Brew Works on the Green, which offers food and drink specials within its indoor facility and patio area.
Festivals
Sports Fest takes place annually in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Sports Fest hosts events for around 10,000 athletes and 150,000 spectators every July, for three days. The festival coordinators state that their mission is "to utilize the resources of the Lehigh Valley to promote amateur athletic competition and to encourage health and fitness for the benefit of our youth and the wellness of our community." Athletes come from all across the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and other adjacent states. Most sports are covered by the events at Sports Fest, but if they are not covered you can petition for your sports inclusion.
