Weight loss occurs through dedication, making sacrifices and staying motivated. If you lack energy, you are going to have a hard time performing any of those duties and your chances of weight loss will be compromised. This is when energy and weight loss supplements are often used. These generally contain natural substances and they can be purchased at health food stores and pharmacies. Even if they are effective, they are still not regulated by the FDA, and they should be used with caution.
Synephrine
Synephrine is a thermogenic stimulant. This means it increases energy while simultaneously turning up the body's metabolism. The end result is more calories being burned and weight being lost. Two popular types of synephrine are bitter orange and Citrus aurantium.
MRP
Meal replacement products come in the form of bars and shakes. The shakes come in powdered form where you mix them on your own or they can come in ready-to-drink aseptic containers. These are used in weight loss programs where you eat multiple meals during the day. You may have a whole food meal, then a meal replacement and continue to alternate every two to three hours throughout the day. These products have a balance of protein and carbs, and they are generally high in vitamins and minerals. They are designed to help control your appetite while keeping your energy levels sustained.
Gels
Endurance athletes think nothing of training for two or more hours at a time to prepare for a race or upcoming competition. After about 60 minutes of exercise, they have a tendency to "bonk." This is a condition in which they have used up their available glycogen (stored carbohydrates) for energy and they become really weak and lethargic. To quickly snap out of this, they resort to energy gels. These are high in simple sugars, which are fast-absorbing carbohydrates. These are also strategically used before, during and after competitions to maintain energy levels and prevent bonking.
Energy Drinks
Energy drinks are technically energy supplements, but they can double as weight loss supplements as well. The idea is, when you consume them, you use the high amount of energy you get to exercise at a higher intensity and for longer periods of time. Some of the main ingredients in these are caffeine, guarana and taurine.
Sports Drinks
Sports drinks are along the same lines of energy gels. They are used by endurance athletes for the same reasons as gels and they are high in simple sugars. But they are also enriched with electrolytes. Using these can not only increase energy, but also help reduce the chances of pulled muscles.
Green Tea
Green tea extract is a supplement that comes in capsule form and also in the form of tea itself. It is used to increase metabolism, curb appetite and boost energy all at the same time.
