It's easy to get pumped up and prepared for game time, but getting ready for a baseball practice is a different story. Practice is essential for getting your team ready for the next big game. Being prepared and having a plan in place for practice will help you make the most use of your time and help develop your baseball players more effectively.
Step 1
Reserve a practice field for the time and date you want to hold your practice. Allow plenty of time in your reservation for set-up, take-down andfor a longer practice session, if necessary. Communicate the time and location of practice to players and their parents.
Step 2
Determine an objective for your practice. Focus on one or two specific areas of the game you'd like for your team to improve on, such as infield defense, hitting against left-handed pitchers or bunting.
Step 3
Write down several drills that will help address the specific areas you want to focus on, including how long it will take to run through each drill, how many players you need for each drill and the equipment you'll need.
Step 4
Incorporate warm-up and cool-down drills into your practice plan, such as stretching and light running, to help players feel more prepared for practice and allow them to recover after.
Step 5
Write down your practice plan in the order you expect to execute it, with estimated times next to each item. Start with the warm-up drills, and then move on to the objective drills and activities you decided upon earlier. Finish with a talk to your team going over what was taught in practice, and end with cool-down drills to help players' bodies recover fully from physical exercise.
Step 6
Share your practice plan with your assistant coaches, and allow them to give feedback and suggestions. They may have noticed problem areas or skills that you may need to focus on during practice.
