Black cohosh, also known as "Cimicifuga racemosa," is a member of the buttercup family and has been used to treat kidney and gynecological disorders, as well as sore throat and rheumatism, according to the National Institute of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. Multi- vitamins are used as a nutritional supplement to help mitigate disease, notes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality. You can combine multi-vitamins and black cohosh to boost your immune system and assist recovery from other conditions.

Black Cohosh Decoction and Multiple Vitamins

Step 1

Consult with your doctor about your current health status so she can suggest what vitamins you should be taking, since according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, when you have low levels of a certain vitamin, you may end up with a deficiency disease. Purchase a multi-vitamin that contains the vitamins recommended by your doctor.

Step 2

Bring three cups of water to a boil in a medium-size pot and add three tsp. of organic black cohosh roots and rhizomes or underground stems.

Step 3

Lower the heat and let the black cohosh simmer for up to 20 minutes, covering the pot with a lid.

Step 4

Strain out all plant material using a cheese cloth or strainer and compost or throw in your normal trash bin.

Step 5

Pour a cup of your black cohosh decoction, which is a form of concentrated tea, and add honey to taste.

Step 6

Take your multiple vitamin dosage as you sip your black cohosh decoction early in the morning after a light breakfast.

Step 7

Drink an additional two cups of your black cohosh decoction throughout your day, as well as any more multi-vitamin pills you may require for the day.

Black Cohosh Tincture and Multi Vitamins

Step 1

Dilute 60 to 90 drops of black cohosh tincture in a cup of filtered water.

Step 2

Drink your tinctured water along with your multi-vitamin pills three times daily, suggests herbalist David Hoffmann in his book "The New Holistic Herbal." With some multi vitamins you only need to take one pill a day, in which case you should take it with your first black cohosh tincture preparation.

Step 3

Repeat taking your multi-vitamins with black cohosh for a week. After seven days, continue taking your multi-vitamins with water for as long as your doctor recommends.

Things You'll Need

  • Organic black cohosh roots and rhizomes
  • Medium size pot with lid
