The Best Life Diet has garnered a lot of attention due to the creator Bob Greene's association as Oprah Winfrey's trainer. The diet is marketed as a no-gimmicks approach to weight loss. Dieters are encouraged to eat healthy foods and make time for regular exercise. Participants must make a lifetime commitment to better eating as a way to lose weight and keep it off.

Time Frame

The Best Life Diet from Bob Greene is broken down into three phases, according to EveryDiet.org. The first two phases are followed for four weeks each while the last phase should be followed for the rest of the life. If you have not lost enough weight during the first two phases, you can stay at these phases for longer than four weeks. Weekly weigh-ins allows you to track your progress.

Features

The Best Life Diet recommends three meals plus one snack per day. You should not eat within 2 hours of bedtime while on the diet. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, but avoid any alcohol. Other unhealthy food items must be removed from your diet including fried foods, sweets, pasta, full-fat dairy, soft drinks and foods high in trans fat. On the third phase of the diet, you are allowed "anything goes" calories. These calories are permitted to allow you small portions of your favorite treats.

Effects

Supplementation is recommended as part of the Best Life Diet. You are instructed to consume omega-3 fatty acids, calcium and a multi-vitamin supplement on a daily basis for optimal health. Also, increased physical activity is a part of the Best Life Diet. Exercises are to be logged to ensure that you are staying active.

Identification

Best Life Diet has a line of endorsed healthy foods that can be purchased at local supermarkets. Products endorsed by the Best Life Diet include pasta sauces, cereals, yogurts and wraps. These foods can be consumed while following the eating plan.

If you want complete access to the Best Life Diet, you must purchase Bob Greene's book or join the online site. You can then review tips, recipes and meal plans to use to follow the diet. Meal and workout suggestions are provided based on your lifestyle, activity level and food preference.
