Weight Watchers offers a calorie-reduction program that follows a points system. The system does not limit the foods you eat, but assigns each food a point value and limits the daily points you are able to consume. When signing up for the program, there is generally a one-time sign-up fee and either weekly or monthly expenses. Weight Watchers four-way approach entails eating smarter, moving more, learning helpful habits and getting support from attending weekly meetings or through the interactive tools available online. Prior to starting Weight Watchers or any weight loss program you should consult with your health care provider to discuss your available options or potential risks.

Step 1

Search the phone book for the local Weight Watcher's group number, or type your zip code into the dedicated space on the Weight Watcher's website to find a local meeting. Some Weight Watcher groups allow one free visit and offer different pricing to fit your budget.

Explore the online website and take the guided tour if you are leaning more towards joining Weight Watchers using the online option. Decide if you are going to sign up for the standard or savings plan, which offers a discount.

Step 2

Decide if you are going to pay weekly or monthly for the meetings. The cost for attending weekly meetings is $10 to $15 per week. Purchasing a monthly pass gives you the option to attend unlimited meetings each month.

Step 3

Go to the meeting. Each meeting requires you to weigh in to track your weight loss and gives you the opportunity to discuss the tools available and communicate with like-minded individuals following the Weight Watcher program.

Log on to your online account to access your e-tools. Click on the interactive tools to track your meals, find recipes and view the helpful tips. Each week, you can enter your weight into the interactive tools where you can see a graph of your accomplishments.

Step 4

Follow the Weight Watchers plan. Weight Watchers promotes changing your lifestyle and eating habits while losing 1 or 2 pounds weekly.
