Trinity Bay Beaches
Trinity Bay is located within the closest driving distance from Houston, at about 30 miles. Most of the land area around the bay is marshy. But, Trinity Bay is home to a few beaches, mostly popular for fishing and boating, though swimmers can also enjoy the waters of the bay. Beach City is one common destination for Houston area beach goers, as the town has a swimming and fishing beach as well as vacation rental houses.
Surfside Beach
Located within 60 miles of Houston, Surfside Beach has a spectacular 21 miles of shoreline. Surfside Beach has remained a quiet beach town, devoid of the condominiums and vacation sprawl of some of the other Gulf beaches. Popular activities at Surfside Beach include, surfing, crabbing and fishing. Additionally, the town of Surfside Beach is also home to a number of fishing charter companies that offer daily fishing excursions.
Galveston Island
Galveston Island is approximately 50 miles from Houston. It is a popular party destination for Houston area residence because of its miles of beaches and restaurants, bars, and shopping. Additionally, there are seven beaches on Galveston Island. The beaches include Stewart Beach, popular for it's family-oriented events, Sea Shell Beach Pocket Park, with miles of sparkling beaches and access to natural wetlands, and the large East Beach, most popular for its large beach parties, outdoor concerts, bikini contests and special events.
Atlantic Ocean Beaches
To visit beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, Houston residents must travel a bit further, but access to the Gulf of Mexico is well worth the drive. Crystal Beach, located on the Bolivar Peninsula is a popular beach destination and a great spot for fishing, crabbing, birdwatching and collecting shells. Though swimming at this beach is not recommended, it remains a great place for enjoying the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.
