The Body Ecology Diet was created by Donna Gates with the intent to restore balance and optimal function to the digestive system, which is intimately linked to your immune, endocrine, circulatory and central nervous systems, says Donna Gates, creator of the Body Ecology Diet. The overwhelming presence of chemicals, additives and preservatives found in common foods today has taken a toll on your digestive system, which may struggle with assimilating and utilizing the good nutrients that come through your body, she says. Starting the Body Ecology Diet may be challenging, but will provide an environment of health to stimulate energy and well being.
Step 1
Make subtle adjustments to your current diet one to two weeks before you begin the first phase of the Body Ecology Diet. Through gradually adjusting to this new way of eating, you will prepare yourself for success by slowly eliminating sugar, starch and fruit from your daily diet. The Body Ecology Diet utilizes the approach of sugar elimination to kill off yeast overgrowth and restore pH balance within the gut.
Step 2
Go shopping and pick up ample amounts of vegetables, such as sprouts, spinach, broccoli, cabbage and other nonstarchy, low-glycemic-index (foods that have very little sugar content) vegetables. Also fill your cart with organic kefir made from goat milk, coconut water kefir, cultured vegetables such as raw sauerkraut, sea vegetables, organic eggs, fish, organic chicken, turkey, lean meat, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, raw and sprouted almonds, quinoa, amaranth grain, millet, buckwheat flour, flaxseed oil, coconut oil and olive oil.
Step 3
Prepare meals that are full of raw vegetables and the whole grains listed above. Enjoy the kefir drinks as snacks in between your three meals per day. Sprout your seeds and nuts in a sprouting jar after soaking them overnight, and enjoy them as snacks. The kefir and fermented and sprouted foods provide "healthy bacteria" to develop in your digestive system and encourage proper digestion, balance, elimination and vitality.
Step 4
Eliminate every starchy bread, potato, flour, cereal, sugar and fruit from your home. These foods are not part of the Body Ecology Diet for the initial phases. After a month or two, you may be able to supplement your diet with fruit items, but that will depend on how your body is adjusting to the diet.
