Georgia is famous for its beautiful coastline, and there's no better way to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area than by camping. There are several campgrounds along the coast, some in the Golden Isles and some further north. In certain areas of the coast, camping is banned to protect the natural environment, so find an official campsite when planning your trip.

Jekyll Island

If you're looking for beautiful, quiet coastline and history combined, look no further than Jekyll Island. You can pitch tents or take RVs there, and enjoy the state park, visit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center or go kayaking with the UGA 4-H Tidelands Nature Center. Nearby, the 230-acre Jekyll Island National Historic Landmark District is the largest project of its kind in the Southeast USA. Alternatively, campers can also enjoy the park's tennis and soccer facilities.

Skidaway Island

Skidaway Island lies southeast of Savannah. Some of the island is residential, but there is also a state park there with camping facilities. Campers visiting the park can make the most of its trails and have a chance to see the variety of wildlife that lives there, from deer to raccoons, to fiddler crabs. While there are no beaches in the park itself, you can enjoy the sea at the nearby Tybee Island.

Tybee Island

Northeast of Savannah lies Tybee Island, a popular tourist destination with a beach three miles long and camping facilities. The town is a mixture of residential and resort areas, and the River's End Campground and RV Park provides basic camping, full hook-up and cabins for those who are looking for something a little more comfortable. The campground has its own swimming pool and Wi-Fi connection and gives campers easy access to Tybee's hiking trails and town amenities.

Cumberland Island

At the very southern tip of Georgia's coastline lies Cumberland Island. It is one of the largest undeveloped barrier island in the world and campers can enjoy both developed and wilderness camping. While in the park, you will have access to 50 miles of trails through the USA's largest maritime forest. To preserve the natural habitat of the park, camping is limited to seven days at a time, and there are restrictions on campfires in some areas.

Sapelo Campground

Sapelo is one of the Golden Isles of Georgia. Located northeast of Brunswick, the nearest town is Darien. The barrier island offers visitors a chance to experience natural forests and sand dunes, as well as take a tour around the historic Reynolds Mansion and the island's working lighthouse. Camping is only available for groups of 15 to 25 people, so it's worth rounding up friends and family to visit this historic site.
