Camping Near Opryland in Tennessee

The Opryland USA theme park, located on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee, opened in 1972, featuring live entertainment venues and rides. The Opryland Hotel, located adjacent to the park, opened in 1977. While the park closed forever at the end of the 1997 season, the Opryland Hotel remained. Now known as the Gaylord Opryland Resort, the hotel and its attractions feature health and outdoor activities, and host thousands of visitors during its annual "A Country Christmas" festivities.

Nashville Area

Situated along Interstate 40, Nashville rests among the rolling hills of Central Tennessee. The Gaylord Opryland Resort lies in the center of the Pennington Bend, along the Cumberland River, on the northeastern edge of Nashville. Forests, hills and waterways surround Nashville, creating a variety of natural venues for outdoor activities.

Campgrounds

Campers can find three campgrounds within two miles of the Gaylord Opryland Resort, all situated along Music Valley Drive. The Two Rivers Campground offers full hook-up campsites for RVs, along with a game room, swimming pool, laundry facilities, bathhouses, playground, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet service and seasonal live entertainment. The Nashville KOA campground provides a variety of accommodations, including tent sites, a lodge, RV sites, along with one and two room cabins. KOA features full hook-up service, including 102-foot pull-through sites, along with a swimming pool, Wi-Fi Internet service, bicycle rentals and an exercise area for pets. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort offers tent sites, cabin rentals and RV campsites with full hook-ups. The campground also features shuffleboard, a swimming pool, book exchange, laundry facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet service, heated and air-conditioned bathhouses, a basketball court and a store.

Gaylord Opryland Resort Activities

Campground guests can find golf and spa facilities within two miles at the Gaylord Opyland Resort. Gaylord Springs Golf Links features an 18-hole, par-72 golf course situated along the Cumberland River. The resort's Rlache Spa offers a full spa menu, including facials, body wraps, manicures, massage therapy and special treatments designed for men. Floods during May 2010 damaged the resort, temporarily closing all facilities to make repairs. As of September 2010, the Gaylord Opryland Resort plans to resume all services on November 15, 2010.

Area Activities

Situated approximately 17 miles from the Gaylord Opryland Resort, Old Hickory Lake offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities, including hunting, water skiing, fishing, boating, camping, picnicking and hiking. J. Percy Priest Lake, located approximately 6 miles from the Gaylord Opryland Resort, features opportunities for horseback riding, fishing, hiking, hunting, canoeing, camping and boating. Within a 20-minute drive of the Gaylord Opryland Resort, visitors can enjoy cycling, hiking, picnicking and horseback riding at Peeler Park.

Nashville Climate

Summer months in Nashville typically offer hot, humid days, with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit in July and August. In winter months, nighttime temperatures can dip below freezing. The month of October typically features the lowest rainfall levels, along with temperatures typically ranging from 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring and fall seasons offer mild temperatures, with colorful foliage in autumn and blossoming trees in the spring.
