Cellulite Reduction

Cellulite is a substance that forms in the connective tissue under the skin. It takes on a lumpy, dimpled appearance that is often referred to as "cottage cheese." Basically, cellulite is nothing more than trapped fat. With that being the case, the steps involved with reducing it are similar to regular weight loss. It takes some physical effort, some dietary discretion and some lifestyle adjustments.

Step 1

Reduce your intake of ill advised foods. Foods that are high in fat and calories should be avoided. Examples of these are deep-fried foods, whole-fat dairy products, processed foods and white flour products. Eat foods that are nutrient-dense, like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, beans, low-fat dairy products and whole grains.

Step 2

Eat small, frequent meals. Eating small meals every two to three hours during the day can offer you several benefits. It can keep you feeling full, it can keep your energy levels sustained and it can also increase your metabolism. The end result is more fat lost and less cellulite. Make these meals a balance of protein and complex carbs. An example of a meal would be baby carrots with cheese cubes.

Step 3

Increase your water intake. Water helps flush toxins from the system, it keeps you hydrated and it also has no calories. Drinking it before meals can keep you feeling full so you don't overeat. The end result is more calories being burned, weight being lost and cellulite being reduced. The Institute of Medicine recommends that women get approximately 2.7 total liters of water a day and men get approximately 3.7 liters a day.

Step 4

Lift weights. Weight lifting can build muscle under your skin and help make your skin taut which can help reduce cellulite. Do exercises that target all the major muscle groups in your body. Examples are dumbbell chest presses, shoulder presses, back rows, tricep extensions and step-ups.

Step 5

Perform cardio. Cardiovascular exercise is efficient at burning calories and reducing weight which can also reduce cellulite. Perform cardio three days a week for 45 to 60 minutes on alternating days. Examples are running, swimming, biking, rowing, elliptical training and stair stepping.

Step 6

Get laser treatment done. See your doctor about getting negative tissue massage and infrared light treatment. This process goes on for several weeks with two treatments a week.
