How to Naturally Lose 10 Pounds Fast

Losing 10 lbs. will not require any special weight loss products. Although diet pills and fad diets may cause you to lose weight faster, the weight is often regained and results are difficult to maintain. By eating healthily and increasing physical activity, you can lose the weight pretty quickly. The key to losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume.

Step 1

Eat foods such as whole grains, lean meats, fruits and vegetables. Eliminate unhealthy foods such as junk food, fried food and fast food. Unhealthy foods tend to contain high amounts of fat, calories, sugar and salt. Sugar has calories but no nutritional value, according to The Mayo Clinic Diet. The only source of sugar you should consume is what's naturally found in fruit.

Step 2

Increase physical activity throughout the day. Walk, run or ride your bike to work instead of driving. Pop in an exercise DVD instead of watching television. Turn on the radio and dance for an hour. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and stand instead of sitting whenever possible. Run for 20 minutes three times a day or play an hour of basketball. The more active you are the more calories you will burn. You may need 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity every day to lose weight, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

Step 3

Create a caloric deficit using diet and exercise. For example, cut 500 calories from your diet and burn 500 calories with physical activity every day to lose 2 lbs. per week, with 3,500 calories equaling 1 lb. Larger deficits create more weight loss, but may be difficult to maintain for long-term weight loss.

Step 4

Perform strength training exercises two to three days per week to gain muscle. People with muscles tend to burn more calories per day, even at rest, according to the Mayo Clinic. Use methods such as weights, resistance bands and calisthenics.
