Smooth, luminous skin does not have to be a fantasy. Even if your complexion is less than perfect, you can help even out your skin tone and texture and get a fresh, total-body glow by using the right products as well as following a pampering beauty routine. Be kind to your skin by selecting products with quality ingredients. These will work with your body to enhance your natural assets, and they will also help lessen the appearance of imperfections.
Step 1
Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser that promises not to rid your skin of its natural oils. Use an equally gentle shower gel or cream to wash the rest of your body once a day. Massage the product onto wet skin, and then rinse it off thoroughly with warm water.
Step 2
Exfoliate your face twice a week with a scrub. Celebrity facialist Kate Somerville says that to achieve glowing skin, you should use a product that contains both grainy beads to get rid of dead skin cells and a chemical ingredient that will dissolve those cells, such as lactic or glycolic acid. Give your body an exfoliating treatment twice a week as well, but use a sugar scrub. "Allure" states that makeup artists suggest this type of product because it will be gentler on your skin than other kinds of scrubs. Apply the products using a circular motion, and massage it into your skin for one minute before rinsing.
Step 3
Apply a rich, soothing moisturizer to your face. According to "Elle," June Jacobs, a skin care expert, says that you should use a product that also contains antioxidants and sunscreen to protect your skin from environmental damage. On your body, use a thick body cream or body butter that contains hydrating ingredients like shea butter. Smooth the products on your face and body, and reapply them as often as needed. Use an additional sunscreen if you plan to be outside.
Step 4
Dust a highlighting product on your cheekbones, collarbone, shoulders and shins to make your skin look even more luminous. Makeup artist Jillian Dempsey suggests purchasing a highlighter in stick form. Smooth it over the areas you want to highlight, and then blend it in to soften the edges and create a natural-looking glow.
