If you've been waiting all summer for your perfect winter ski vacation, you want to make sure it isn't marred by poor packing. Skiing requires equipment, warm clothing, appropriate footwear and options for the time not spent on the slopes. Even if you're a seasoned skier, double-check your packing process to make sure you get the most out of your trip this season.

Weather Reports

Make sure you closely follow weather reports for your destination ski zone before packing for your trip. Also, consider whether you're a morning, daytime or nighttime skier. Depending on the time of year, location, and your preferred ski time, the weather can vary greatly and you want to make sure you're adequately clothed for the temperature and weather. After you pack all the layers and jackets you think you'll need, throw in an extra set of long underwear, an extra set of thermal socks and an extra set of glove liners. Feeling the cold creep into your toes and fingers while sitting on a ski lift can make for a miserable experience.

If Flying, Pack Light

If you have to fly to your ski destination, packing light can help you get on the slopes sooner. Airports these days are notorious for losing luggage, so the less you have to check, the better off you'll be. Pack two lightweight duffel bags you can carry on the plane. Fill one with ski clothes and the other with toiletries, pajamas and other clothing. Consider renting ski equipment, or if you want to use your own, use a shipping service like Sports Express to ship your equipment to your hotel. You won't have to worry about its getting lost or damaged in flight, and you won't have the hassle of checking your bags. You can get on and off the plane quickly and to your hotel and the slopes in a shorter period of time.

Toiletries and Extras

You want your trip to be as comfortable as possible, so don't forget personal care items like your deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush and lip balm. Consider packing ski goggles or sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and blowing snow. And while you're thinking of all the things you need on the slopes, don't forget you'll spend plenty of time off the slopes as well. Pack a bathing suit, flip-flops and jeans for hitting town or a hot tub.
