Legendary sportsman Fred Bear was a dedicated archer, but he also was dedicated to producing high-quality archery products so that every archer could shoot with accuracy and confidence. As a result, Bear Archery was created and began to manufacture various bows, including the Instinct compound bow. According to Scott Alread, archery product manager for Bear Archery, the Instinct compound bows combine cam and limb technologies in a ready-to-shoot bow package.

Function

The simple and direct approach of the Bear Archery Instinct compound bow is designed for the bowhunter. The compact design is ideal for hunting in a treestand or ground blind and the single cam system provides a smooth, sure draw and release when you encounter a shot opportunity on an animal. The molded quad limbs provide accuracy, speed and forgiveness, with additional features and accessories designed to enhance the bowhunting experience.

Features

The Instinct compound bow is available in Realtree Hardwoods Green HD camouflage for concealment and stealth in a bowhunting environment. Other features of the Instinct include the machined-aluminum riser for durability and shock reduction, straight carbon rod cable guard for smooth draws and a two-piece wood grip for comfortable shooting with minimized torque.

Speed

Every compound bow features an IBO (International Bowhunter Organization) speed. The speed can be used as a general guideline for determining the potential arrow speed for the bow. The Instinct comes with a 305 fps (feet per second) IBO speed rating. To assist in arrow speed, the Instinct also features Sims vibration dampeners and string leeches.

Size

The overall weight of the Instinct compound bow is 4.1 lbs. without added accessories. Other size measurements include the brace height and axle-to-axle length. Brace height--measured from the grip to the bowstring--is 7.5 inches, allowing for maximum shooting forgiveness. The axle-to-axle length is 31 inches, making it easy to carry and maneuver in hunting situations.

Accessories

Bear Archery designed the Instinct compound bow for a ready-to-shoot accessory package so that a bowhunter can purchase the bow package without worrying about additional equipment. After the 2007 release of the Instinct RTS, the ready-to-shoot package sold for about $550. Carolina Archery Products were used on the package and included a Whisker Biscuit rest, Foxfire Hunter Series 3-pin aluminum sight, ShockStop deluxe stabilizer, wrist strap, camo string loop and Six Shooter camouflage quiver.
