Herbal remedies and beauty products are becoming popular as people learn more about the toxic chemicals that go into making the commercial versions of soaps, shampoos and antiperspirants. The reasons for choosing an herbal antiperspirant or deodorant include not wanting to put aluminum on the body or in the water supply. Making your own hygiene products also is economical and can be fun. Sage, with its natural antibacterial properties, is an effective ingredient for homemade antiperspirant.

Step 1

Combine the water and cider vinegar and heat to almost boiling.

Step 2

Place the dried sage in a large glass bowl. If you like, you also can add thyme, rosemary, spearmint, eucalyptus or marjoram.

Step 3

Pour the boiling water over the herbs and steep for 20 minutes.

Step 4

Strain the liquid into a glass bottle.

Step 5

Add the witch hazel and lavender essential oil. Keep the bottle in a refrigerator to make the deodorant last longer and close your pores when you splash it on.

  • 1/3 cup distilled water
  • 4 tbsp. dried sage
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
