According to Mayo Clinic.com, white spots on the skin are generally caused by vitiligo, a condition that causes the skin to lose melanin, resulting in a loss of pigmentation and white patches, most commonly appearing on the face and lips. However, there are some natural remedies that can help treat the white spots and stop pigment loss, according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to the Use of Aromatic Oils in Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well Being."
Step 1
Combine ½ tsp. benzoin essential oil, ½ tsp. tea tree essential oil, ½ tsp. cabreuva essential oil, ¼ tsp. palmarosa essential oil, ¼ tsp. frankincense essential oil, ¼ tsp. galbanum essential oil. ¼ tsp. Scotch pine essential oil and 1 cup olive oil in a small bottle or container with a tight-fitting lid.
Step 2
Cover the bottle or container and shake the mixture to combine the essential oils and olive oil.
Step 3
Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad. Allow the pad to soak up the oil for approximately one minute.
Step 4
Leave the oil on your skin for 20 minutes without wiping it off.
Step 5
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a gentle facial cleanser and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to the area just treated.
Step 6
Use this treatment once per day in the evening. Stop using the mixture if it causes extreme redness, swelling, itching or burning sensations.
Step 7
Keep unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark and dry place for 60 days. Discard the mixture after 60 days have passed if you have not used it all.
Tips and Warnings
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for two hours after using this treatment. Exposure to UV light can cause irritation. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are best for skin and hair care. They often cost more, but they offer a great benefit to the user. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are usually sold anywhere that sells regular essential oils, such as a health food store or online store.
