Public Campgrounds In and Near Fremont
Wolf Creek Park offers 24 primitive camping sites with tables and fire rings on its 93 scenic acres just south of Fremont. The park is maintained by Sandusky County.
White Star Park is located about 20 minutes away, on 800 acres in Gibsonburg. The park offers fishing, swimming and non-motorized boating in its 15-acre quarry, along with playground and sports areas, nature trails and mountain bike trails. The camping area offers both primitive sites and sites with water and electric hookups.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has a list of state park campgrounds--there are several island camping possibilities nearby, on Lake Erie. They're also the people to contact for your fishing or hunting license.
Private Campgrounds in Fremont
Private campgrounds in Fremont and nearby are a diverse bunch. They range from Crystal Lake, which hosts Bike Week, caters to hunting season and is the official campground of the Sandusky Speedway, to more prosaic retreats like the Lazy J, "where families love to play." Quite a few offer up-to-date perks like 50-amp hookups along with the horseshoe pits and children's activities. Two marine-oriented campgrounds in Fremont offer boat slips and bait shops. This is auto racing country, and several speedways are within easy reach. It's also fishing and hunting country. On a rainy day, you can visit the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center. The Sandusky County Fairgrounds are located here. The fair is held during the last week in August; at other times, the fairgrounds host flea markets, car shows, sportsmans' swap meets, pigeon shows and other community events.
