Cleaning Eye Glasses
Overview
In a perfect world, no one would need eyeglasses, and, in a less perfect world, if you did, they would stay clean all of the time. However, since we all live in a world a lot more real than either of those, many people require glasses, and they get dirty quite frequently. Since eyeglasses are expensive, you need to take good care of them, and daily cleaning is part of that maintenance.
Step 1
Wash your hands with an antimicrobial soap to insure that no foreign substance can transfer from your hands to your glasses.
Step 2
Remove your glasses near a sink that you intend to use for their washing. If you are right-handed, hold your glasses in your left hand with your thumb and forefinger holding the nose bridge section. Have the lenses pointing towards the ceiling, with the top portion of the lenses facing the palm of your left hand. If you are left-handed, simply reverse the instructions and hold your glasses in your right hand.
Step 3
Wet the lenses with lukewarm water and apply a small amount of dish liquid to the surface of each lens.
Step 4
Use the thumb and forefinger of your right hand to gently spread the soap around the entire surface area of both sides of both lenses.
Step 5
Continue to rub all parts of the lenses gently on both the exterior and interior sides until a full lather is visible. Maintain a firm grasp so that your glasses do not slip into the sink.
Step 6
Hold the bridge and clean the entire frame with your soapy fingers. Clean the ear pieces. Rinse off all soap from both hands and glasses.
Step 7
Place the glasses down on a safe, flat surface and dry your hands. Use a dry paper towel or cotton towel to dry the frames, but avoid both finger or towel contact with the lenses.
Step 8
Use a soft cloth designed especially for eyeglass cleaning to wipe the lenses and remove all moisture. Hold your glasses up to a bright light and survey each lens to make sure that all droplets of water are gone.
Step 9
Handle the cleaned glasses carefully without smudging the lenses with your fingers and either wear them or place them in their case.
Tips and Warnings
- Always remove your glasses with two hands to avoid stretching and the possible bending of the frames.
- Never use paper towels to wipe the lenses, because although they seem soft to the touch, their surface is rough enough to scratch the lenses. Never place your glasses anywhere except in a hard case when not in use.
