Many women spend hundreds of dollars annually on skin care products that claim to reduce fine lines, tighten eyelids, even skin tone, and much more. Many products are advertised as being "natural" or "organic" products. They are made with olive oil or infused with honey, but the benefits are not maximized because these products are mixed with chemicals. The most effective skin-care system is found at your local grocery store. Whether applied topically or taken orally, these products will restore the skin from the inside out.
Water
Water is the body's main source of hydration. About 70 percent of your body is made of water, and when you sweat or urinate, the body becomes dehydrated and the skin looses moisture accordingly. Topically, it is a great morning cleanser. A splash of warm water is great for removing excess oils from nightly moisturizers. Warm water can also loosen pores.
Avocado
Gaylord Hauser once said : "In this single delectable fruit are combined the protein of meat, the fat of butter [but much more wholesome!], the vitamins and minerals of green vegetables, the flavor of nuts, a six course dinner." This noted food author was not mistaken. Avocado has many nutrients that nourish the skin. Vitamins A, D, E and K protect the skin from free radicals, and along with fat and proteins, help the skin maintain moisture.(See Reference 1)
Honey
Known for relaxing the body, honey also is soothing to the skin. The thick substance helps the skin retain moisture, giving the body a healthy shine. It also contains natural substances that alleviate redness and calm irritated skin. Whether sipped with a hot cup of tea or combined with avocado and oats for an exfoliation treatment, honey rejuvenates the skin.
Milk
Just as honey is known for its calming benefits, milk has a similar reputation. Children drink it warm to relax before bedtime, and in ancient history, queens were known to bathe in the soothing liquid. It is a product that calms even the most irritated skin and is a natural source of hydration and exfoliation as well. Whether ingested or used topically, milk can improve the overall health of your skin.
Yogurt
Yogurt is a great skin-care product that reduces pore size, improves overall skin texture, and gives you a healthy glow. It contains zinc which assists in the treatment of acne, and similar to milk, yogurt has a cooling affect when applied to the skin, according to the Healthy-Skincare website.
Oats
The nutritional properties of oats are beneficial for the entire body. Oats have many anti-inflammatory properties, keeping the cardiovascular system healthy, and in turn keeping the skin youthful. Also, as a topical agent, oats help to soften dry skin and relieve itchy skin. It is found in many skin-care products such as Aveeno.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is an inexpensive but very effective remedy for evening the body's skin tone. It is a very acidic fruit and can be used for exfoliation. When applied to the skin, lemon can remove dead skin cells that contribute to dull complexion. It also acts as a skin bleach for dark or discolored areas such as elbows, knees, and blemishes on the face, says the RN Guide to Skincare website.
Olive Oil
Olive oil contains a high supply of age fighting antioxidants. It keeps the skin youthful by providing moisture and maintaining elasticity. When it is applied directly to your body, it acts as a protective barrier without clogging the pores, according to the RN Guide to Skincare.
Flax Seed Oil
Rich in omega 3 fatty acids, flax seed oil improves the condition of your skin by increasing the natural oils your skin secretes on the surface. Also, when smoothed on the skin, it is a great moisturizer, alleviating dullness, and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Green Tea
Green tea contains catechins, a group of antioxidants, which help fight damage caused by free radicals. A cup a day is great for promoting youthful skin. Applied directly to the skin, green tea helps to improve the complexion, and the used tea bags can reduce puffiness when applied to the eyes.
