With school out, let your child have a fun and active summer by participating in one of the many summer programs offered in Kentwood. The Parks and Recreation Department of Kentwood, Michigan offers a wide variety of summer programs including soccer camps, baseball leagues and swimming lessons. All of these programs work to ensure your child has a memorable summer while helping her to stay healthy.

Soccer Camp

Help your child have a healthy and active summer by signing them up for a five-day soccer camp session offered by the Kentwood Parks and Recreation department. Camps take place from June through July. This camp specializes in teaching your child ball handling techniques and skills, such as dribbling, shooting and defending. Camp is available to children ages 6 to 12. Children are separated into different groups based on age and ability.

Baseball League

Have your little one learn the joys of baseball by putting them into an age appropriate summer T-ball league. This league is offered to children ages 4 to 7. The program runs from June through August. The children learn the rules of the game, basic ball handling and fielding skills. The children will learn healthy competition and teamwork while playing against other Kentwood T-ball teams.

Aquatics

When the weather gets warm, what better way to cool off than by taking a dip in a pool? With the city of Kentwood's Parks and Recreation Department, your child can improve his swimming skills by participating in a summer swimming program. The city offers swim lessons to children ages 5 months to 15. For the infants, parents are required to participate in the lessons. Certified instructors teach children breathing techniques, how to float and strokes.

Tennis

One way to have your child enjoy the warm fresh air in Kentwood during the summer is to sign them up to participate in a tennis program. During the month of July, children ages 4 to 12 receive instruction from experienced tennis professionals. These lessons are designed to teach your child the rules and fundamentals of the game and to improve upon his hitting techniques. No tennis experience is required. Children are separated into beginner and intermediate groups based on age and ability.

Traditional

At Kentwood Prep's Summer Program, children grades kindergarten through 12th grade can participate in an enriching traditional summer program. This program offers both day and overnight options. Daily activities at this program include arts and crafts, music, sports, science, swimming and games. The aim of the camp is to help children learn organization and critical thinking skills along with building new friendships.
